A sociolinguistics note: One of the main characters of KILLBOY is a kanaka maoli person. While I grew up in Hawaiʻi for a part of my life, and made sure to reference documented linguistics sources, it is entirely possible that this character's HCE is incorrect in an OOC way at points, which I may not know due to not being a native speaker of HCE. This work was a labor of love, and I had a $0 budget going into its creation. As such, I was unable to consult native speakers. It is partially the design of this novel that this character's dialogue is attrited HCE due to both code-switching and linguistic imperialism – that said, if I have made serious linguistic errors, I sincerely welcome corrections by readers, and can be reached by my Tumblr at @egregore-engine. Tang is the beating heart of this book and I hope to do him – and Native Hawaiian people – justice. Thank you dearly.
